Summer Strolling in Lewes

Lewes is the county town where the East Sussex County Council has its main offices. I have been to Lewes last winter but I did not stroll around the city, which local people recommend that it is a nice place to walk; therefore, I went there when I needed to take a break last month.

It seems that summer has not reached peak heat in the UK. However, it was extremely hot when I visited Lewes around in the noon.

Walking out of the station and along the right side, there are some antique stores in the streets, including a flea market central for meeting your nostalgic feelings.

In the middle of the town, Lewes Castle stands on the high hill, showing that its political status in the history.

Several small lanes with shade trees and flowers connect to the Castle, providing the best channel when walking in the sunshine.

Some private houses are built next to the castle.
Strooling up to the top of the hill, as the English poet, novelist: William Morris puts it,
You can see Lewes lying like a box of toys under a great amphitheatre of chalk hills [...] on the whole it is set down better than any town I have seen in England.’

Down to the way to return the station, I came across Southover Grange Gardens, a place with formal flower beds, modern sculpture and hidden nooks.

Therefore, I spent another hour to stay there to enjoy the wonderful exploration of Lewes.

I believe that is one of the biggest attractions in the East Sussex.
